Work with Lumaris
(They/Them)
I'm a non binary (they/she) fantasy illustrator based in the midwest; I love bringing to life characters and stories by and for indie authors. I’ve been making art and posting online for over 15 years, having roots in ye olde DeviantART. I’ve worked with a range of clients from indie authors to TTRPG players and GM’s. On the side I write my own books, my personal work largely derived from them. Writing gave me the inspiration to learn to illustrate; and as I developed my skill set, I found I enjoy working with others to bring their visions to life as well.
What I do.

Client provides a brief that covers the theme, the characters, poses (if applicable, if preferring artistic freedom just vibes lol), character bios, how they relate to each other (family, enemies, lovers, worse~), and as many references as possible - visual and written work. Can be stick figures even, all of it works — just no AI references.
After accepting the brief, I generally keep in touch with the author on a few major steps.
Thumbnail sketch→ I’ll sketch up the overall composition with between 2 and 3 variants to choose from
→ once accepting a thumbnail, I’ll sketch it in higher detail, trying to capture as much of the major detail and shapes, though it’ll still be rough. I’ll check in once to make sure it’s going the right direction (and will follow up if any changes are needed.)****
→ once that sketch is accepted, I will make a cleaner final sketch, which the client will need to approve before the colors.
→ The first color phase is mostly flats (less shadow and rendering) and rather rough, but gets the vibes down. I’ll make sure the character’s complexion, clothes, eyes, hair, and any other details are still accurate before moving on to the last stage
→ the render. Clients will get the final once I’m done, and will have up to 3 minor changes if anything looks off.
Once final is accepted, client will be emailed the high res file in JPG, PNG, and PDF (if for print)
**this is the last point any major changes (such as arm pose) can be made. But whole body pose MUST be addressed prior this step. The thumbnail is supposed to work out the main poses, but it’s okay to change your mind in the early sketch phase. But any further and it would require a lot of redrawing and time.

Prices on character art will include the basic license, able to use the art for advertising and digital media, but for full commercial use rights - to use for digital advertising and print media - it’s 50% of the total. (ie. commercial rights for a square portrait would bump it from $85 to $127.50) Covers include the commercial rights.
Refunds are only based on how much work was done prior deciding to end the project. If it’s finished there are no refunds.
Contact preferred via Discord but can work with email (this is for sending updates; final will always be delivered via email)
It’s the client’s responsibility to save the files
Client agrees not to run the art through AI or train a model off it
I paint 1 hour 3 days a week, 4 hours Thursday and Saturday. I do not work on Sunday or Monday. (I have a full time job, so I just try to have 1 day rest, 1 evening post-shift rest) I try to respond fast but most days it will be the evening (post 7 pm EST) that I can reply to messages or send them (until the weekend).
