My Lan Khuc, digital illustrator, and designer, specializing in contemporary romance book covers

Work with My Lan

(She/Her)

Hola! My name is My Lan Khuc, and I am a designer and illustrator based in the UK with a special love for book covers (which is not surprising, seeing that I grew up being an absolute bookworm). I specialise in fantasy and contemporary romance, but I am open to any interesting projects that require breathtaking illustrations.

Whenever I can, I explore different art styles or creative solutions to bring worlds to life. Not two books are the same, so I believe that my covers shouldn’t be either. However, despite my flexible style, you will find that I steer towards vibrant colours, defined silhouettes and expressive characters.

What I do.

  • My Lan is brilliant. There's no other way to say it.

I first started working with her after she won a competition to design the cover for my first book, and I've never looked back. When my second book was being published, there was no question that I had to work with her again, and she will continue to be the first call I make on all my projects. She is not only a phenomenal artist with creative, truly original ideas, she is so great at collaboration and making sure you get exactly what you want and what the book most needs. Whatever you're looking for I guarantee she can hit it out of the park. I've worked with other artists and designers on different projects and it just brings home what a jewel My Lan is. All I can say is HIRE HER as fast as you can!

My Portfolio

Let’s work together

  • I am most comfortable working in fantasy and romance, but I am open to doing most subjects, particularly character-based scenes. BIPOC, LGTBQ+ characters, as well as those with disabilities or underrepresented body types, are always welcome.

    I will NOT draw:

    • Explicit pornographic materials (erotic scenes are okay).

    • Hardcore gore (some horror scenes can be negotiated).

    • Hateful, racist, homophobic, ableist, discriminatory, etc. content.

    • A replica of someone else’s style.

    • A 1-1 copy of AI-generated materials (if you used AI to create examples of your characters, I am fine accepting them as references).

    • Sci-fi ships, cars, and planes. Mechas and robots.

    • Furry art

  • Working with me would look a bit like this:

    1) Once a quote has been agreed upon, I will send you a book cover form where you can tell me about your book and what you envision on the cover, as well as all the technical details. If you don’t have any specific ideas, I will be happy to make suggestions.

    2) I start brainstorming and give you 3-4 initial composition ideas, from which you can pick a favourite and tweak as you see fit. Don’t like any of the initial concepts? Don’t worry! Just letting me know what doesn’t work will allow me to create new ones closer to what you are looking for.

    3) My goal is for you to fall in love with your cover so you will have the chance to give feedback throughout the process. You can request any edits you need during the concepting/sketching phase, and up to 5 simple edits during the polishing stage.

    4) Once the design is finished and approved, and all the payments have gone through, I will deliver the final files.

  • To secure a slot, I require a payment of 40% of the project’s quote. The remaining 60% is paid at the end of the process, once the art is approved and before sending the final files.

The deposit will be refunded only if the slot is cancelled at least 15 days before the start date. If you’d like to keep your slot but can’t make it to the agreed date, the slot can be rescheduled at no extra charge.

The final artwork shall not be altered with AI under any circumstances.

All invoicing and contracts will be done through Hawthorn & Aster.
